The past week has been very hot and HUMID. Hard to work for very long in the garden. I keep plugging away at the weeding but the wet soil from all the rain has dried and it's getting harder and harder every day to pull weeds. And the clover! What a pain. I have to cut it off at ground level so it is slow going.

I picked my first cucumber today, and from a volunteer plant no less. Just a small pickling cuke, but a cuke nonetheless.

I also picked almost a bushel of beans today. Well, a round tub trug. Felt like a bushel. So, they are coming on hot and heavy now. I am hoping to have more cukes by Friday too for market. And tomatoes should start by next week. Two with a blush right now. One should be ready tomorrow. Matt would pick it as is but I like them to ripen on the vine as long as possible.

Matt harvested the garlic yesterday and today. He is complaining about it but he always does. Next year just one row. Which makes sense since we won't be doing market.

Rattlesnake beans are up and doing well. I planted parsnips yesterday. Second time. I sure hope they come up. Something is still eating the beets though. Not as much, but there are still some eaten. Shockely has been patrolling the garden a bit so that is probably helping. Elsa was spayed yesterday so she has to take a week off from running in the garden.

The flowers are pathetic though. And I just cannot worry about it. But there are a ton of volunteer rudbeckia so this week David said he would make several just BES bouquets. Even if they're just extra in the display stand it will look nice. This week I should have a few snapdragons finally, and celosia (all volunteer), echinacea, a few daisy, yarrow, BES, and maybe some glads. There are a few Bells of Ireland and Jupiter's Beard and still some scabiosa. That's about it. Oh, maybe some garden phlox but I find them hard to use in arrangements. They are pretty and they smell good, just don't quite work in bouquets.

So another sparse week at market but that's okay. In two weeks we can start to sell garlic. And cukes, peppers and tomatoes should be in full swing. Oh, and I have dill this year! And possibly some cilantro. And malabar spinach. Possibly some lettuce but for sure tatsoi. Hmm, maybe not so sparse after all.
