On June 8th 2014 I planted some of my amaryllis seeds, three weeks was the projected time to germinate. Well, they were just a few days earlier than that. I planted the seeds out in the garden in a small bed I worked up with compost. Then I watered the bed after planting the seeds, then covered most of them with picket fence boards to keep the critters from digging them up and to cut down on the watering . I came up with the brilliant idea of using a piece of framed translucent glass, that way I would not have to lift the boards all the time to check on the seeds. Well, as a lot of my ideas...that one did not turn out to be so brilliant after all. The seeds under the boards sprouted, none of the ones that were under the glass have sprouted.
We have had rainy weather and I only had to water the seeds once, did not remove the boards then, just watered around them to try and keep the soil moist.
Now it took less than three weeks to germinate, just three more years till bloom time!
Took a pic of these glads out in the garden today, it looked like they were bleeding.
