Not much going on out there today from my vantage point. Although I'm sure the plants and birds and animals are all busy busy busy, what with the rain last night and the cooler temps (for now) this morning. I see some thready blue skies to the west so it will probably be another hot day, but I'm indoors today, working at earning money I can spend in the garden.

It occurred to me yesterday that this past year has been life-changing for me. Not in some big awesome way, but in a small and (to me) very important way. I finally feel vindicated in being a gardener. I finally don't feel embarrassed to say "I love to garden. I am passionate about it. It is my life." And you know what changed that? Watching a BBC vid on Highgrove, Prince Charles's garden and listening to him talk so passionately about it. It took a while, but finally my brain realized: if someone this sophisticated and powerful can be this passionate about his gardens and the environment, then you're in pretty good company. Allelujah.
My dad was a gardener, as was his dad, and I think they loved it....but I think it was a guilty pleasure. I know my mother's family looked on gardening as an essential job: You grew food for the table. Flowers were a waste of time. I grew up in a family of gardeners who were embarrassed to admit it! *LOL*
Anyways, no more listening to my "inner mom" voice that says I shouldn't be wasting time pruning my roses when there are beans to pick. I love my garden and I don't care who knows it. Hmmmm....I've come out of the garden shed? "We're here, we've got dirt under our nails. Get used to it."
