I have plans. Big plans. But right now I wait out the rain. Not complaining. We need rain, and this overnight soaker is perfect. (My grandma always used to say "If you want to make God laugh, show him your plans. Oy.") :lol:
Yesterday, in between bouts of editing, I went up to the SB garden and dug out the edges of the new big circular area where the old apple tree was removed. It's 15 feet in diameter and it fits really almost perfectly onto a natural "shelf" of soil that's formed by a piece of the underlying limestone ridge rock that curves there. A couple of chunks of the ridge actually form a sort of 2-step "stairs" leading up onto the circle. It's more level than I first thought, but I will need to do a little excavating. I think that simply removing the weeds/monster grass and raking the dirt around may do most of the work. I dug a planting hole next to the old apple stump. My original intention was to put in a flowering hawthorn that I have growing in the nursery bed. But....
After grocery shopping, i stopped at Lowe's to just see what they had....everything was marked 25% down. I bought a Kwanzan flowering cherry for that spot. I also bought some pots of asters and Asiatic lilies and a giant ostrich fern (for the woodland garden). Cause you know I just NEED more plants....*yeah right*.
Once the rain lets up, I'm going to plant that new tree first, then assess the sitcheeation and see what else I can move/divide/transplant/plant. This might be the last truly perfect weekend for planting...
Also, the next sunny day I get i am going to have to get out the roundup and go to town. There's just too much weed and not enough me. I need serious help in some spots, just to get things under control. I also need serious amounts of mulch, but right now my supply has dried up. (I have this sudden vision of me standing in dark alley "hey, buddy, got mulch? I can pay...." *flashing lights, siren whoop* "Step away from the pickup truck ma'am...." :lol*
Not much else going on....R picked a lot of apples (and there's still huge amounts more!) and I made more pie filling, plus baked my new Halloween treat "Apple Mummy". Ate that up in 1 day! Must make more.
Well, need to go bottle up the wine. I think it came out ok.
