alan475's blog: worm casts

Posted on Nov 16, 2014 10:11 PM

A little about myself: I live in North East Thailand and together with my wife and her family have 5 small farms (total 15 ha). One of the farms (No 2) has the most amazing worm casts I have ever seen. I took a couple of random square metres and counted the casts. In one week there were more than a million on the 3 Ha farm. I spend a good deal of the day collecting casts and putting them around the oil palm trees.

I have spent hours researching worms and their benefits but have not found the answers of my questions. After the worm cast has been formed; when is the cast at its most beneficial? ie. while still moist or after a couple of days when the sun has been on it. I'd like to make a cast soup. 1000 litres at a time and spray the trees once a week. The second question is: will the cast soup last? ie. can I just keep adding casts indefinately?

Any help will be appreciated.
