PAgirl63's blog: New Kid On The Block

I'm new here, but not to gardening. I've been playing in the dirt since I was little. I do pretty well with my small scale gardenbeds (I have quite a few scattered around my house) and I also Iike planting in flowerpots. I don't have to do as much bending and kneeling that way. :-))

Now, houseplants are another thing. I usually end up KILLING them. Not intentionally mind you. I'm just not lucky with them for a variety of reasons. First off, in my house I don't have nice, wide windowsills. But even if I did, the cat would probably knock them off anyway. He's already knocked down my 3 tier plant stand a few times. Secondly, I really don't have enough light coming through my windows to keep indoor plants happy. As for the third reason, I tend to kill houseplants with kindness. I water them too much. In my defense though, I have to say I have a little philodendron that is actually growing! I see new leaf buds forming. It's all because of a nice woman I met in the supermarket about a month ago. We got to talking plants, and I told her how I tend to kill my houseplants. That day she gave me some advice. She told me, "Completely ignore them and barely water them in the winter." It's working!
