Woke up to 5 degrees today! Last night DH and I brought in all my stuff to winter sow. I've been mixing the vermiculite with potting mix, in the kitchen. Hopefully what I am doing will work. The vermiculite with the potting mix is very light and fluffy. The plants will love it. I feel like the Swedish Chef from the Muppets, in the kitchen mixing my mix.
Putting holes in the bottom of the soda jugs is tricky, so I'm cheating and using a sodering iron to melt holes. So much easier and safer, me thinks. There is no mercy for a container being used for winter sowing. It's a hard life. lol I wonder if I am putting enough holes in my containers.
It is so fun planting these seeds. I finally get to open them and use them!!! Some seeds I have been holding on to for almost a year and finally they get there chance to shine. I've been saving jugs and soda bottles for awhile, but now I'm weary I'll be running out soon.
I've got pepper seeds incubating. I check on them more than I ever checked on a baby, making sure the temp is just right, but it keeps fluctuating. Hopefully that is not big of a deal. I'm trying to keep it around 85, but some times it spikes and sometimes it goes low. We'll just have to see what happens but the equipment I've got, is what I've got.
Stay warm and work on your garden! This is the best winter yet, knowing that Spring will have so many surprises. AWE-SOME!
Promise :)
