Only 2F this morning at 7:30 a.m. It crept up to a sweltering 8F by 10 a.m.

The two feral cats are ok. In fact, they are so snugged into their respective shelters that I actually have to knock on the "door" to wake them up to come get some (warmed up) food. It's like room service... "Oh..um...just a minnit.... *yawn, stretch*. NOT tuna with cheese AGAIN! Next time, make it bacon and turkey...."

We have a light snow coating on the ground, maybe 1-2 inches of dry powder, and I'm hoping that will provide enough protection for some of the bulbs I planted this fall. I wonder if I'm going to lose my few remaining lavender plants?

Not much to do garden-wise. I am browsing catalogs (on and off line) to find some seeds I want to buy and also to mark some plants that I might like to get later. I'm really set on acquiring 'Empress Wu' hosta this year. I want really gigantic plants down in the stumpery. (I would soooo love to get one of those giant Himalayan lilies but I don't think I can provide the conditions it needs unless I plant it in a big pot...which is an option, but I'm still thinking about that).

Saw a video about Moorish/Islamic influence on gardening in the Mediterranean...very interesting. I love the idea of the hidden courtyard gardens...from the street, the house presents an almost windowless blank, severe appearance, but once get inside the house wraps around a central courtyard that is filled with green plants and water. Very lush and serene in a desert climate.

When I was little, I had two Aunt Roses. One was my mother's sister and the other was married to my mother's brother. Whenever my mother or her other sisters would refer to their sister Rose (as opposed to their sister-in-law), they would say "Our Rose." For years, honestly I think until I was about 12, I thought my aunt's name was "R. Rose" and I would wonder what her REAL first name was. it was a real puzzle! *LOL*
