Seedfork's blog: Tulip bulbs

Posted on Jan 12, 2015 7:07 PM

Last year for some occasion, my wife received a small pot of Tulips. I saved the bulbs after they had bloomed and bagged them in a paper bag and placed them in the refrigerator. Now I have my plant refrigerator down in the garage, and plenty of room to keep things like that. So there they sat for the past several months and today I took them out of the bag, cleaned them up a little and popped about 50 of those tiny little bulbs into the garden. It is suppose to rain tomorrow, so maybe my timing is going to be pretty good. I did label them and now I hope the squirrels, chipmunks and moles can't read.
While rummaging around in the shed I found some more Butterfly weed seed I had picked and left in the little pods to dry out. Those things were beautiful, the pods all cracked open and the insides all fluffed up and loaded with seeds. It was like down floating all over the place when I would blow a handful out the door. This is not the best way to harvest Butterfly weed, much better to do it before they fluff up, but not as entertaining.
Also had several different pans of Zinnia seeds sitting around drying out, oh yeah...forget to label them. So as usual I will end up with a mixture. Why do I sort them then not label them?
