Cooler today, down in the 40's when I went out to the garden, and the high today of 55 with windy conditions, but bright blue skies.
I called this time before stopping by Lowe's and they said the Bulbs and seeds were in. So I drove up there, just a couple of mines away and checked them out. No Burpee seeds, only Ferry-Morris, so it was pretty much a duplication of what I had already seen at Walmarts.
Didn't buy much, trying to save a little money for buying seeds online and at the farmers co-op. I did buy what I think is one of the best bargains in gardening, onion sets. I got a bag of 80 sets for $1.98, bought a pack of onion seeds'Texas Grano' for $1.59, as usual the sets are just labeled yellow, red, or white and I bought the yellow ones.
I bought a pack of 'Early Scarlet Globe' radish just so I could plant something and see it growing in a short while, $1.35. Also bought a pack of "Icicle, Short Top' for $1.29, just for a little variety.
I looked at the Caladiums and just bought one bag, mixed 8 bulbs for $6.98. I purchased one bag of Freesia (I have never grown these) 25 bulbs for $6.98.
The only flower seeds I bought were 3 packs of Zinnia 'Candy Cane' mixed colors, $1.35 per pack.
Tomorrow I will probably get the onion sets put out and plant some radishes, might even plant some of the onion seeds.
I picked up two truck loads of very dirty decayed pine straw this afternoon. Not the kind you would want for the front flower beds for sure, but just the very kind I love to get for fill and compost. I had a steep drop off right behind a small bed I filled with some ferns and other stuff, so I dumped both loads there and spread it out some.
The good thing about that is with all the dirt is holds it's position on the slope very well, plus I just back the truck up let the tailgate down and push it out. No need to back down and chance getting stuck, I can stay on the paved drive. With the two inches of rain we had the other night I knew there was no chance of backing down the dirt path to the big leaf pile.
I managed to get the camera to work a little again today, it is sporadic. I had been playing around with it trying to see if I could find what was wrong and did not realize I had reset the size and had it set for Raw also. Anyhow after seeing the photos I realized what I had done, so these photos today are small.
I had my first daffodil bloom, and I also have an Iris that is trying to bloom. The strange thing is the Iris is barely out of the ground.
The Evergreen daylilies are still very ratty looking but are getting larger each day and have some new greenery growing in the middle of the mush piles of previously frozen leaves.
The dormants and semi-dormants are waking up and showing their pretty new foliage. I am also beginning to see some new growth on a few of the roses.
My Red Hot Poker plant has looked good all though the winter and is really growing.
Dormant and Evergreen daylilies waking up!
