LysmachiaMoon's blog: This is getting ridiculous

I hate to whine, but this bad week just keeps going. Yesterday evening (Sunday)....I spent 3 hours in the emergency room. This is the first (and I hope last) time I've ever had to go to the ER and I felt like a total fool. Around 4 p.m., we went for our usual 2 mile walk, came home, I ate a small snack, felt fine. Then, when I started working at the computer, I started to get these weird "floppy" feelings in my chest...heart palpitations. I know from experience and from reading that these are usually absolutely normal and to ignore them. But they would not stop....I mean would NOT stop....it felt like a live fish jumping around in my chest and my heart rate was fast. (I guess because I was getting scared.) R. decided to take my blood pressure, which was only a little above my normal, but when he heard my weird heartbeat he got scared and insisted we go to the ER. By that time I was scared...R? Want to DRIVE? At NIGHT? In the RAIN? At the time when he is normally taking a nap? Good god, I must be dying!!! So, changed my underwear and socks and we went. By the time I got in the truck I actually felt fine, and halfway there I told him to turn back, but he insisted. So.... long story short: I'm ok. They did an EKG and a nice doctor (who I swear to GOD looked and sounded like John Malkovitch...whaat?) told me I had Premature Atrial Contractions and that they were benign and I should not think about them. He said nobody knows what causes them, stress doesn't seem to be the cause, and the worst thing I could do was worry about it. So I was both VERY RELIEVED and felt very foolish for causing a fuss over nothing. But at least I slept at night not waiting to wake up dead.

We got only a trace of snow overnight from this big storm that is moving thru. I think we are forecast to receive only 1-3 inches, with the bulk of the snow going east and north of us. I don't envy those areas.

As for gardening, yesterday I planted some geranium, bugloss, catmint, and blackberry lily seeds in pots and set them in the garage for chilling. I had some good success with this method last year with veronica (verbena?) and so I thought I'd give it another try. Also hauled in all the stuff I need to start my hypertufa experiments....
