Seedfork's blog: Second planting of carrots: Wild's Daylily order

Posted on Feb 4, 2015 2:13 PM

Misty rain, cloudy, temp in the mid forties. Not great weather for getting a lot done in the garden, but it was perfect for planting my second sowing of carrot seeds. I guess the first lot rotted in the ground, still only one carrot showing, and maybe a lettuce seed or two. Maybe I was just a little too early.
Anyhow, I loosened the soil down about six inches or so, broadcast some fertilizer, dug it in, smoothed out the bed, made a couple of furrows and dropped in two varieties of carrot seeds. I made an extra effort to plant these even shallower than the first ones, and I thought I planted those fairly shallow. So this misty rain should be perfect to wet the carrot seeds.
Here is my choices of daylilies (mainly based on the $3.50 price) but with a few other chosen criteria.
Woodside Amethyst:

Iris Envy:

Scottish Fantasy:

Janice Brown:

Prairie Blue Eyes:

I tried to pick rust resistant plants and tried to avoid dormants, but other than that at those prices with a limited selection offered that was really the best I could do. I will get a free plant of Prairie Blue Eyes, it was a BOGO, and I will get a bonus plant (unknown).
