LysmachiaMoon's blog: Heavy snow today

Posted on Mar 5, 2015 9:02 AM

Well, the weather forecast got it right on the money this time....it actually began snowing at 7 a.m., just like they said yesterday! We've got about 4 inches at 10 a.m, so it's really coming down. It's supposed to keep snowing until this evening...at this rate we'll have far more than the 3-6 inches we are predicted to get.
I'm trying to work up the nerve to bundle up and go feed the hens. THey're warm and toasty in their henhouse so I think it's ok if I poke around a bit and feed them later. They aren't going to appreciate me opening the door and letting in the cold!

Watched some BBC gardener's world vid yesterday and felt so much better...that show just cheers me up no end. This episode was from october 2011, and it was SO NICE to see a green growing garden. My own view out the patio door is a frozen wasteland.

Potted up a young geranium in an olive oil can yesterday and potted up my rooted cutting of basil in a small clay pot. Then took another 2 cuttings from the big basil plant and put them in water to root. I may try unmolding the 2nd mushroom cap today, but I have to make sure it's ready...I have to admit that boredom is making me impatient!

UPDATE: Riley the cat with the mystery illness. It's a roller coaster ride. On Monday, she was so weak she could not walk and could barely swallow. Just completely limp. I found her under the sofa, very chilled. Bundled her up with a heating pad, feed her by syringe, etc. It was very bad. At one point, she had a seizure...her little head went back, her legs stretched out...I really thought (and even hoped) that she was dead. But she hung in there. By noon, we had decided that Tuesday we'd get her to the vet and have her put down. In desperation, I got a double dose of prednisolone into her. I figured at that point it was life-or-death, so why worry about a slight overdose? Well, Tuesday morning, she was sitting up and able to eat on her own. Today (Thursday), she walking around and behaving normally. I'm keeping her on the higher dose of prednis. I realized later that it really isn't an "overdose"...it's the dose prescribed for another of my cats at one time and the size of that cat and Riley are about identical, so 5 mg/day must not be that high...I remember at the time with that cat the vet saying "If he has to stay on it for life, that's ok." So....I'm going to see how this week goes, then I guess it's another consultation with the admittedly stumped vets. I'm seriously considering a trip to Frederick, to a specialist, for another opinion. It's very hard not knowing what we're up agaist here...illness, injury, brain tumor....?
