29 degrees and cloudy at 3:10 pm. Expecting some snow showers later. Does it ever end?
Anyway, did some W/S seed sowing. I sowed:
Shirley double poppies
Alyssum - royal carpet & carpet of snow
Larspur - leftover from last year.
California poppy - Sunset mix
Dwarf snapdragon mix
Bachelor buttons - mixed together Blue boy & Double Mixed Colors
Thought I would try an experiment with Sweet Pea Galaxy Mix- the flowers.
I loosely filled a WS container (gallon water jug) with moistened potting mix. Then I carefully placed 6 toilet paper tubes into the soil so that the top of the tubes were level with the top of the soil. I made sure I could still see the cardboard tubes. Then I filled in the tubes with a bit more soil and also placed extra soil around the tubes to anchor them in place. Then I took a pencil and make a hole about 2 inches deep in each tube and dropped 2 seeds into each tube and topped them off with more soil. With a spray bottle, I then moistened the top of the soil and pulled the cover closed and sealed the container with a few short strips of duct tape. If the seeds do germinate and I get decent seedlings, I'm hoping I can carefully remove the cardboard tube and plant the tubes right into the ground or into a flower pot when the time is right. From what I've read about sweet peas, they grow long roots and I if this experiment works, it will make transplanting easier. Time will tell.
