It was nice out this morning, finally started clouding up and later this afternoon finally got a little rain. It did not seem like much just under half an inch looking at my jar on the stair rail. I swear the grass has already turned two shades greener.
Pruned the suckers off the Crape Myrtles today, pulled some weeds, and planted more Zinnias and a few Cosmos I had left. I wanted to make sure none of my plants were sitting in trays without drainage in case we had a hard rain so I changed the ones out without drain holes to ones with drain holes. I like to keep a little water in the bottom of the trays when it is as dry as it has been. It is amazing how much water a single plant can absorb on a hot sunny day.
My Golden Euonymus has some type of fungus (mildew like) growing on it, so I mixed up some spray and gave it a quick spraying, hoping it would kill it on contact. I read an article the other day naming like the top ten landscape plants not to plant and this one was on the list. If it does not have scale, it has mildew, mold, or some other pest or disease. Beautiful plant when it is healthy, but keeping it that way is a constant battle.
Checked out the roses today and it looks like the black spot is in remission, but now with the rain it might make a sudden comeback. The roses are looking great right now. Lots of buds, pretty leaves and large blooms starting to take shape. I did pull off some black spot leaves today, but not nearly as many as I was expecting.
