Seedfork's blog: More pruning

Posted on Apr 22, 2015 1:44 PM

Another nice sunny day, cool again and very windy, but being I was working next to the house and it was blocking the wind it was a very pleasant morning. It is suppose to get up to 80 degrees today, but doesn't seem that warm to me, maybe because I was also in the shade all morning.
I completely cut down two holly bushes, don't know why I had let them stay where they were for so long. After pruning the ones the other day the last thing I wanted to do was prune two holly bushes that were serving no purpose other than to agitate me. Well that left ten more on the other side of the house, I seriously considered cutting them all down, but then decided against it and just pruned them all way back. That should last for at least two years I hope. While I was in pruning mode I went ahead and did the small azaleas on the far side of the house, decided to leave the large ones for another day. Not very educated on pruning things, so I won't show pictures, but at least I can walk down the little path now.
I made plant stakes out of some of the prunings today, still had amaryllis that have become floppy with all the rain. I got most of them staked and tied and now you can actually see the blooms. Happy to say I still have some new amaryllis blooms almost every day.
I did have one very tiny, poor malnourished looking pip from the hosta Twilight show today, this hosta has struggled from the beginning here, it just does not seem to do well in this climate. The slugs and snails are beginning to make their nightly raids, I am not seeing them but I can see the leaves being eaten. I am still waiting on Sum and Substance and Loyalist to show, I think that will be all of them then.
I had my first lily to bloom, it is not very bright but it is the first lily I planted in the garden, I took some bulbs from some gift plants and it has done very well, but it is really not an attention getter.

Looks like it won't be too much longer before other asiatics start to bloom.
Bad news, I did not catch a O'possum last night, but the good news is he did no damage last night.
I planted a package of assorted plants and now they are up and I don't know what they are.
Is this sunflower?

Is this butter fly weed?

Is this actually even a flower?
