Scattered clouds, cool early but very humid... rain predicted again for this afternoon.
I am enjoying the showers we have been getting for the past few days, not monsoon rains, but 1/2 to 1/4 inch at a time, sometimes two a day. The grass is greening up and looking good right now. The weeds in the lawn are not so bad at the moment, I have been pulling a few everyday, but it makes little difference. I am letting it grow a little taller so when I mow I will have more to add to the compost piles.
I noticed yesterday that there were quite a few daylilies ready to pop open at any time, so I was excited to get to the garden early this morning. The first thing I saw was a new bright red NOID in my seedling bed, don't actually think it is a seedling, I did transplant a few daylilies in that bed...but I had nothing like this last year. So, I have no idea where the plant came from, but it is pretty ,and I was just tickled pink to have it bloom. Within an hour it had turned quite a bit darker, but it is still a beautiful bloom.
Everywhere I looked there were new blooms, yellow, red, orange, purple...the garden has never had so many beautiful blooms before.
Today I finally did get a photo of a new 'Red Volunteer' bloom, and it really is an attention getter, and it is in just the perfect place to be seen as you walk down to the garden.
'Primal Scream' is located on the end of one of the rows, so you can walk past it going down one of the paths into the garden. It had blooms open on it this morning also, it is not as tall as it should be yet, but next year it should be up to the correct height.
The first flower to open ever on 'Super Purple' was right next to 'Primal Scream'.
On the opposite end of those rows 'Orange Velvet' had opened up two new blooms.
Further down the row, 'Elizabeth Salter' had a bloom open.
The days of rain have kept the bog beds very wet, the triangular bed is soggy boggy! But the new daylilies are doing great and I had several blooming this morning, some the first flower to open ever.
'Scarlet Gown':
'Panic In Detroit': The largest bloom ever in my garden.
'Carnival In Mexico' This one really made me smile, it is so bright and colorful!
There were many more plants blooming today, I won't try to show them all, but I have never been more pleased with how the garden is looking. The rains have beat up a few of the blooms, but most of them hold up pretty well. I did notice that my beautiful 'Bonnie Corley' does not take the rain very well.
