LysmachiaMoon's blog: With age comes wisdom

While sitting the doctor's waiting room yesterday, I picked up a Glamor Magazine (haven't read one since I was 20). I guess with age does come wisdom. Because I don't think I'd plunk down my hard earned cash for the following products advertised:
1. Irish Moor Mud. Apparently, for a lot of cash, you can buy a jar of slimy black mud from the Irish moors (sheep poop is included) to smear on your face to improve your skin.
2. Charcoal. I'm willing to admit this might work to clear skin on principle, but have serious doubts. My dad was a coal miner and I don't recall him having baby soft skin...even though he came home covered in coal dust.
3. Special water in a small bottle for a lot of moola that will clean you face better. As my dad would have said "Boy, they saw you coming."
And finally, my favorite: 4. Snail Slime. Yep. You read it right. A small vial of slime left by snails. Another thing supposed to give you perfect skin. Uh huh. Right. OK. Could I just stick a hosta leaf in my nostril and lay out in the garden overnight? Would be a lot cheaper.

Now, if anyone's interested, I have this sure-fire hair restoring elixir (if you call it elixir or serum it works better) that involves chicken by-products....

Been very busy in the garden, but for the life of me, sitting here in a stupor of exhaustion, I can't recall what exactly I did. *LOL*

I got a big section of the upper Fairy Glen garden weeded and tidied up. That is a very new section so the weeds are still pretty bad up there...I'm taking advantage of the wet weather and really getting a lot of weeds out. The plants I put in up there are thriving however, so I'm hoping that in another year, it will be settled down and easier to maintain.

I finally got the driveway bed cleaned up. It looked a lot worse than it really was. once I got the iris/peonies deadheaded and the couch grass pulled out it looked fine. Definitely will need to overhaul that bed this fall; the peonies are getting huge, the black eyed susans are spreading over everywhere and the iris are forming big patches that need divided. I'd like to try redoing it as well....I'm thinking of setting in a couple of yellow Knockout roses into the bed, maybe some different colors of daylilies. Just needs something different.

Planted some seeds of stuff...flowers. I dunno. Stuff....

Scored 2 boxes of that fake stone like they used on my house siding. The company had leftovers and I got 2 boxes for $40, about half of what I'd pay full price. Plus, the guy really overloaded the boxes with odds and ends as well. Took me 4 wheelbarrow trips up the hill to get it to the Folly Wall. He says it's equal to about 20+ square feet so that will really help me get the Folly Wall finished a lot faster.

Peas are starting to flower...
