I hooked up the sprinkler so it could be working as I was working, then I'd try to move it every twenty min. or so. The weather site says 96 and feels like 100 F.
Sunday I managed to give away about half of my Flore Pleno daylilies that were dug up. I have one more lady and one more couple that want some so it looks like by Wednesday they should be all gone.
I dug up a few more (three clumps) of 'Flore Pleno' this morning, but I also created a new little bed. I had a large compost pile down there last year, but when I made the daylily beds down there I used all that compost so I had space for a bed. I also dug up three clumps of 'Crimson Pirate' that was lost in the overcrowded bed and added them to the new bed. I had a clump of 'Flore Pleno' that had grown in and intertwined with a clump of 'Spanish Glow', the 'Spanish' Glow was prevented from doing much growing, but the Flore Pleno was huge. I had to wash all the dirt off with a strong force of water and then pry the small clump of 'Spanish Glow' out of the entanglement.
I also had a large clump of 'Sunday Gloves' that was being overtaken by Flore Pleno so I dug them all out. I replanted the 'Sunday Gloves', and the 'Spanish Glow' back in that bed, but now they have much more room. There were a few clumps that I was not sure off, so I dug them out added them to the new bed and that really opened things up a bit, plus I removed a large clump of Purple Coneflower.
So now that bed is not nearly as crowded, and I have a new bed with still room for some more plants. I added mulch to the old bed where I dug up and replanted the daylilies, and later this afternoon I hope to get around to adding mulch to the new bed.
I took the hose down and spent a good amount of time watering everything down there, we are really needing a rain, seems like over three weeks since we have really had a good soaking rain.
Here are a few current daylily blooms and some of the many butterflies that were in the garden today.
These large black swallowtails were very numerous this morning, there were fighting over the blooms.
These little ones were hard to get a photo of, they were constantly moving about.
