LysmachiaMoon's blog: Anger gets weeds

So, its 6 a.m. and I've just started slurping up my first cup of coffee when I think I should go to the veg garden and assess the cabbage worm situation. Yup, need to definitely dust the plants. That's when I see that *$@@*%! galinsoga weed (the stuff we call mouse plant) EVERYWHRE. I swear to gawd I've gone thru that garden stem to stern and pulled out and scraped off every seedling and now there it is...carpets of it. I got so mad.... I went up to the house, put on my work clothes, and tore into it...I pulled, I hoed, and I sprayed for hours. I was just so darned mad...here I have a million things to do and I have to do THIS. AGAIN. Every time I tell myself, this will do it...maybe not eradicate it, but at least knock it back to manageable proportions and it just DOES NOT STOP Coming. *Argh*

Well, at any rate, the garden looks better... I've decided I'll go back over the paths and spray again later in the week. I'm hoping this spray "took"....it was dry most of the day, but we've just now (6 p.m.) got a heavy rain.

Removed the snow peas and took the last of the harvest there. Next year, I'll definitely try to get them in the ground much earlier.
Everything is doing pretty well....the bean towers are covered with vines, the spaghetti squash vines are trying to climb over the fence.... I still need to pick the rest of the peas and black raspberries.

Got a bucket of cherries in trade for a couple dozen eggs. I have a pie ready to go into the oven in a few minutes, along with a lot of chicken drumsticks that I want to roast up for supper tonight and then also to make chicken salad later in the week.

Our local supermarket built a new facility and the grand opening was this weekend. Much bigger store, very nice. They were handing out freebies all over the place Sunday morning and a nice girl handed me a small bouquet of roses! They were a bit draggled, but so pretty. They did not last long....I had to toss them today (Tuesday p.m.), but they gave me an idea. The colors were peach, bright yellow, deep pink, and red and they looked Amazing together. I know that the planting instructions for those "Old English Roses" say to buy and plant 3 plants close together to get a better thicker effect...what if I would plant 3 DIFFERENT COLORED roses right up tight together? Bet that would look pretty!
