My old boy Alvin the cat (who looks like Glengarry's cat!) is 17 and I took him to the vet for his annual geriatric checkup. He has a bad tooth (again) that will have to come out on the 22nd of July. The vet was a bit concerned by his "numbers"...she says he's dehydrated and his kidney function is not what it should be. My first thought was that its because his tooth hurts and he's not eating/drinking as he should, but she sort of steamrollered that idea and came up with A Plan. I have begun to cringe whenever my vets come up with A Plan because it usually involves the words "This is So EASY." and then me getting scratched/bit/generally torn up by my cat when I try to do it.
So, now I'm supposed to give Alvin subcutaneous fluids 3 times a week until his dental. This is SO EASY. All I have to do, according to the vet, is hang the bag of fluid from the shower rod, stick this big needle into Alvin's scruff and keep him there for about 3-5 minutes until the fluid runs into him. It's just SO EASY. For her. *sigh* The only other time I ever tried to inject anything into a cat (a vaccine) the needle went clear through the cats scruff and I injected MYSELF. Well, stuck myself. I did not actually give myself a feline leukiemia shot. After that, me and the cats all decided it would be better to let the vet do the sticking.

I am getting desperate to get out and do some gardening, but the rain and the office work keep coming. Everything is so lush and green though it's hard to complain. MUST remember to get those 2 big ostrich ferns in the ground today.
