Absolutely beautiful weather here lately, but very dry. Looks like late next week before we have a chance of rain.
I received my Daylily order from Cheryl's Daylilies Thursday afternoon, the plants were pretty small (some of the smallest I have received) and the plants obviously had been growing in some compacted soil, they were shallow rooted and the roots were compacted together. A couple of them had to be chopped through to divide them.
Even though my soil is very easy to dig into, I also had to slice through one of my own plants the other day to divide it. So I know that some plants just grow that way and 'Hot Wheels' could be one of those. Anyhow, even though it was chopped though, there must be at least five little fans clumped together there.
I think maybe all the plants had more than two fans, they were just very small, but I do feel that by planting them in the fall that by spring time (April) they will be nice sized plants. I just need to take some extra effort to fertilize and water them a little extra.
I already had the spots prepared with the plant markers in place, so there was no confusion when planting them, it is so much easier this way. I love planting and working in the garden at this time of year, never again will I order and plant in the heat of mid to late summer. It was very hard on the plants and very uncomfortable for me. October has been wonderful for me and hopefully for the plants also. My poor little 'Jason Mark' never has recovered from the heat torture it went though, and suffering from being dug up several times by critters.
Here are photos of my new arrivals from Cheryl's 'There is also a 'Laura Harwood' in this order, she was out of it when I first ordered, then it was given to me, then Cheryl took the effort to find it, so I went ahead and ordered it again. I don't think I will regret it seeing how well the gifted plant is doing.

'Laura Harwood'
'Japanese Brocade'
'Ming Porcelain'
'Hot Wheels'
Here are two plants given to me and just planted a few days ago.

Pink Seedling:
I was given a couple of plants a few weeks ago and I took photos today to show what they already have grown into.
'Laura Harwood'
'Bali Watercolor' this is after a single fan was divided and moved to another bed.
I said I moved a single fan, it actually looks like it was a double fan. It is doing super!
