LysmachiaMoon's blog: Just musing

Posted on Jan 3, 2016 3:42 PM

Cold sunny and windy today, also swamped with deadline office work, so nothing done outside. Just musing here about my garden and all I've accomplished this year. Sometimes it feels as if everything is just taking SO LONG, as if I'll never see the garden that I've got in my head actually here, in reality. But then if I just stop and think back at how much I did get done this year...and all by myself...well, there's hope for me yet!

This year I
started and completed the "bones" of the stumpery...and acquired loads of plants for it. Looking forward to planting it in the spring.

finished creating the bog garden...I'm going to replant it in spring 2016; this year was just getting it started

cleared off the big area that will be the Winter Garden and acquired loads of plants for it.

cleared off the big area that will become the new Rock Garden

redesigned/replanted the Front Bed, with an Asian garden theme and a "dry stream bed" running through it.

cleared and expanded the Willow Tree garden on the hill...that needs to have the blackberry roots dug out and grass planted there. In 2016, I'd like to put up an arbor and bench there too.

expanded the beds in the Fairy Glen Entrance garden significantly and planted them

Finished the first half of the Folly Wall and planted the large new bed in front of that

expanded the Pine Gap to 1/3 of the way along the back road and added a lot of new perennials and shrubs

poured a concrete pad in front of the tool shed

installed underground barrier fencing around the veg garden

So, not too shabby! And this was along with all the routine planting, weeding, harvesting, etc that goes into any large garden.

As always, my biggest concern is getting water to the garden, especially as it expands farther away from the house. Going to be thinking of ways to utilize water butts/barrels more efficiently for the outlying areas.

I'm hoping 2016 will be better still.... this year I'm going to try to devote more time to the veg garden, which was pretty sadly neglected last year and got off to a very late start.
