Seedfork's blog: Ladybugs

We had another three inches of rain last night so the temp. stayed pretty warm. It had been getting down into the twenties for a few nights. So, I had an old sheet thrown over one of the cold frames I have a few Coleus cuttings planted in. Well, the wind blow it off and when I picked it up to hang it on a pole to dry out I discovered over a dozen ladybugs spread out all through the crumpled up sheet. I don't know if they were just getting out of the rain or trying to avoid hyperthermia.
Whatever the reason, I was really pleased to see that many ladybugs all grouped up together. That is the most I have ever seen at one time in my garden. The cold frame is right next to my bog bed with the daylilies planted in it, and normally in spring I have an aphid outbreak. I am hoping now I will have an small army of ladybugs to combat them.
