LysmachiaMoon's blog: Give me strength

Posted on Feb 2, 2016 7:11 AM

Give me strength, O Lord, to not go back to Facebook. I have never been a big user/fan of the site, but have an account there mainly because it's the only way I (rarely) hear from my niece. Over time, I've acquired some "friends"....mostly real-life friends and a few relatives. So no great emotional durm und strang there. But oh man, this is not what I want with my morning coffee, you know? Last week, I check in while slurping down the first cup of joe and the first post is by the friend of a relative (someone I don't know) saying how she'll be the one in line at the grocery store "packing heat" and I should be grateful because she'll shoot the robbers who come in to terrorize us all. The coffee about came out my nose. No thank you please. And , erm...maybe you're shopping at the wrong supermarkets.

Then, another relative (I know, I know, she's an animal advocate and I support her cause and I salute her fervor) posts the picture of a family standing happily around the dead elephant they have just slaughtered. Again, this is not what I need to see with my first slurp of coffee.

It put me off Facebook for almost a week. Then, yesterday, I check in and the first thing I see is a heart wrenching post by the animal advocate about dead puppies and euthanized dogs at the pound. The second thing is another in a long (LONG) line of endless whines from another acquaintance about his nonexistent love life. (Maybe, just maybe, if you stopped posting how bad life treats you, how inept you are, and what a failure you are (as well maybe refraining from posting pics of the latest failed job interview letters) you would actually HAVE a love life)).

Enough.

I have had enough. I know maybe I'm shallow, maybe I'm a coward, but is it so much to ask to just see some cute kittie pics and hear about somebody's grandbaby's first steps? Seriously?

So, that's it. I'm dropping Facebook. After the dead puppies post I fled (literally FLED) to this site and immersed myself in the soothing words of fellow gardeners...ah....that's better. Pictures of flowers and birds.

OK, so I'm living in a fool's paradise. I like it here. It's my happy place.

Got all my seed flats scrubbed and sanitized. Got my bag of potting compost sitting soaking up hot water overnight. By Valentine's day I'll be ready to go with starting seeds!
