Well, beautiful weather here looks like for the rest of the week. But, I was due an oil change and a haircut, plus needed a few items from Walmart..don't I always need a few items from Walmart. So I got all those things done this morning. Just so happens Walmart had Milorganite the cheapest I had seen it, so I bought two bags (under $13.00 a bag). I had been to Lowe's and Tractor Supply looking for some high nitrogen slow release lawn fertilizer without weed killer, and once again Walmart had just the ticket, and at the lower price. So I bought a bag of that, just over $34.00 for a 42lb bag.
On an end cap in the garden department was a display of bulbs. Five nice sized Asiatic Lily bulbs for $5.00, and five fragrant Oriental bulbs for $5.00, so I bought a bag of each. Not a great deal, but decent price I thought. Then there were two different kinds of gladiolus bulbs 35 bulbs (nice big bulbs) for $5.00 a bag so I got two bags.
So I came home with a haircut, an oil change, my needed items picked up, and 80 bulbs to plant and fertilizer to spread. I ate lunch, and got busy. Managed to get all the bulbs planted and a lot of the roses and daylilies fertilized, still have a lot left to get to tomorrow. I was just using my single bulb planter and was being pretty picky to start with about the spacing and site selection, but after the first couple of dozen I just started looking for any empty spot. Surprisingly, I only hit a few of last seasons bulbs as I was planting, so I assume critters have eaten most of last years bulbs.
I might should have at least put the black fabric cover over the cold frame tonight, temp. is getting down below forty, but I didn't. I'll hope for the best with my tomato seedlings. Then for the next few days it looks like I shouldn't have to worry even about night time temps. Then it is suppose to cool back down, hope I don't get used to not covering things up and let everything freeze.
