LysmachiaMoon's blog: I live

I've been so darned busy with office work this week I haven't had time to post anything. But I have been getting some gardening done...I guess in a way, better to be out there doing it instead of just writing about it. Let's see...I finished resetting the brick edging around the Pond Circle and hauling in and spreading some dirt to raise up and level the path. Path still needs to be mulched and the benches put back.

Got a mess of stuff planted in the veg: runner beans, a small patch of bush beans, radishes and red beets, some more onions. The weirdest thing....I had a packet of white beetroot seeds in my hands. I remember thinking, "I don't want to plant these with the redbeets. I will plant them later, in a separate area." And now...*pfft* gone...I cannot find that packet anywhere. I've been thru the seed box 4 times, looked in my tool bucket, looked in all my pockets, even checked the compost heap thinking maybe I inadvertently tossed the packet into a weed bucket. Nothing. No where. It's like they vanished. I still think they might have ended up in the compost, so I might poke thru that again later, but after the rain we had Friday night the seeds are probably ruined anyways. Just weird.

I hauled in about 10 really nice used "landscape timbers" from the mobile home park's "dump." I've got them lined up over the groundhog holes but I'm hoping to find good use for them. They're used, but in good condition. Always come in handy...

The gardens are really coming into their own. I've got a lot of lovely blossom and bloom everywhere...things are a bit tatty this year because of that unseasonably warm weather (everything burst out of the ground) followed by unseasonably cold weather (everything got "fruz"). The daylilies look especially bad...a lot of burned white/yellow leaves. I don't think they will be affected as far as health/flowering,but right now they don't look pretty.

Finally...finally...I GOT THE RIGHT PINK TULIPS. I wanted tulips in the Pond Circle that were the exact same shade as the bleeding hearts. My first attempt 2 years ago was off...the tulips were more "salmon" than pink. This year, I got it right...a clear silvery pink, the exact shade of the bleeding hearts....which arent' blooming this year because they got badly frost damaged. *sigh* Ya can't win.... *LOL*
