I have been spending all my time it seems working on the daylily bog bed, and pretty much letting everything else go.
I have spent hours and hours pulling Chamberbitter weeds, out of the lawn lately also. Each year I declare victory only to acknowledge defeat the next summer. I just don't know how Chamberbitter can multiply so fast, I know it puts out tons of seeds, but if I pull all the plants where the heck do the seeds come from?
Well now the bog is pretty well set till fall, and I have had more time to devote to other parts of the garden(of course that is subject to change)...but I will delay those thoughts for now.
Two of my projects for this morning were to get the rose bed mulched with compost and to fill in a half dozen washed out areas where my downspouts have eroded the soil. I got all the washed out little gullies filled, then tackled the larger job of mulching the 60 foot rose bed. I had a special pile of compost I had reserved just for this project. It went much faster and much easier than expected, and the sun stayed behind the clouds all morning and they really helped a lot!
Here are a few photos showing that now the rose bed is totally weed free and mulched, I am hoping to have a fall flush of blooms, but the roses look terrible at the moment. I need to spend some more time getting them up to par.
Yes I am in the process of digging out some NOID daylilies and replacing them with some named varieties. Not the best place for daylilies in a rose bed, but it was empty space I felt the need to try and fill.
