LysmachiaMoon's blog: Busy few days

Posted on Feb 26, 2017 3:38 PM

Busy for the past few days, but for the life of me I don't know exactly what with! Today (Sunday) I was able to get half of the Kennel Green House floor raked over and ready for gravel. It's going to be (what else is new around here) a piecemeal sort of thing getting that brick floor laid because, despite my huge brain, I piled all the salvaged bricks IN the greenhouse so I have to lay half the floor, then shift the pile and do the other half. I guess the next thing is to really dig out and level the cleared half, but the wind just got to me and I had to come in. I did manage to get the replacement metal rods cut and repair the door...I still need a couple of things to finish the door, but the worst is done.

Yesterday was a wash. I spent the morning doing my civic duty, then in the afternoon we had a hellish rainstorm sweep thru...much sturm und drang, but very little actual rain. It is still bone dry around here. It's like it's forgotten how to rain.

Friday was spent cleaning the hen house and spreading the strawy manure on the Auxiliary Garden. And I know...I just KNOW I did other stuff, but cant remember what... It's exhaustion, that's what it is.

I've decided to give myself a birthday present and have the gravel for the greenhouse, the folly wall footer, and a couple other smaller projects DELIVERED. I think 3/4 ton of fine grade gravel should do it. That sounds like a huge pile, but it's not...just heavy.

Our weather is back to normal today, highs in the 40s, clear, cold wind. The past several days were like something out of a strange nightmare...February on the calendar, but June in the weather. We were 36 (thirty six; THIRTY SIX) degrees Fahrenheit above (ABOVE) normal on Friday. God and all his angels help us if we go that way in July. All I can say is, once we all get this climate thing figured out and fixed (and I believe we will if we all work at it!), we as gardeners are going to have a lot of work to do cleaning up this mess. Planting trees, educating people about recycling and composting, etc. I for one am stocking up on work gloves so Im ready!
