PAgirl63's blog: The Winter that Won't Go Away

Snow. And more snow. Snow ... Snow ... Snow. I HATE SNOW! Grrrrr!!!!
I feel like I'm up to my eyeballs in the white stuff. I like snow in the Winter, but this year it's worse than any I can remember living up here in the Poconos. And I've been here for 17 years!

We have gotten over 40 inches of snow in the last 2 1/2 weeks. It's not the light and fluffy kind. Oh, no. It's heavy, wet, and seemingly unending. There's another strong probability that another Nor'easter is heading this way again sometime next week. Hubby & I are supposed to leave Wed. the 21st in the a.m. for sunny Florida to see the the kids, and grandkids. Should be interesting since the new SNOW is due to arrive Tuesday into Wednesday. We shall see ....

Since I haven't been able to to see the soil for a LONG time, I've been making due with just taking care of my houseplants and prepping milk/water containers for some Spring sowing when we get back from vacation. Sort of like Winter Sowing ... but planting cold hardy seeds in April works just as well as if I had truly winter sowed seeds in January. In April, germination will be quicker and I should have decent sized seedlings to plant out in early June.

I don't do much indoor seed starting, but I do sow Morning glories & moonflower seeds inside to get a jump start since they don't bloom until late in the summer season. I just hope that we don't have a very cool and wet summer like we did last year. Last summer my MG and MF didn't do very well due to the lack of sun and needed heat. Oh, well, just have to hope for the best.

I am doing something this upcoming summer season I have NEVER done before. I am going to use some ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS! I went to AC Moore and bought Morning Glory vines on sale to cover 2 white trellises that are in the front of my house. I have no trouble growing real, living MG vines, but the last few years the deer have gotten to them just as they were about to start flowering. I have quite a few of my gardens fenced off to keep the deer away, but these 2 trellises are completely exposed and too difficult to try and fence. I wonder if some kind of GARDENING POLICE are going to show up at my front door and fine me for doing the unthinkable! LOL

Anyway, here's a few pics of the AWFUL WHITE STUFF!!!
