microb's blog: Progress

Finally got the bridge repaired. New railing on the left hand side has been pushed out 6 inches so now I can get the wheel barrow across. Temporary gate put up, basically a rectangle structure of 2 x 4s and lattice that drops in between two post on either side. To open, just need to lift and slide it to the left.
OK so now I can get over the bridge I need to repair pig damage to fence. Very effective barrier is to take tree and plant trimming and pile them up on the exterior of the fence. Pigs come along and nudge the logs and clippings tight against the fence and create a blockage. Nice green waste barrier that has limitless supply of material to keep piling on top. So to create this barrier along the entire fence line I am trimming like crazy and will be cutting down trees to complete the entire fence line before the pigs come back. They have been absent for a couple of weeks ( I should not have had that thought.)

Today my neighbor Richard and I planned our bamboo gathering trip to the Kona side of the island. He has this contact with a lady who has large clumping bamboos in her garden and she wants some removed for free. Richard checked it out a couple of days ago and took photos which we examined together today. If we are able to dig the roots out it should be a productive trip.

Otherwise more of the same. Trails need trimming, grass needs cutting and all has be done and look nice by next Sunday when a couple of friends are coming for a garden tour. So hopefully everything will look nice for at least five minutes before it all gets out of hand again.

Missed my volunteer day at the gardens last week due to a cold which grounded me for a couple of days. Next planned work day is Friday of this week. My wife and I are planning a birthday luncheon at the Kilauea Lodge Restaurant on Thursday. The Volcano National Park reopened yesterday as the volcanic activity has settled down so all the businesses in the area are smiling again as tourist activity resumes.

Weather has been nice the last few weeks so gardening activity has resumed to its normal levels.
