drdawg's blog: Getting raised bed ready for fall planting

Posted on Sep 9, 2012 12:28 PM

Just pulled up and/or unpotted all my tomato plants. I had 16-18 of them and it was time to recapture my raised garden as well as free up some pots. My compost pile is now topped-off with the tomato plants. I will be planting 4-6 dozen gourmet garlic cloves in mid-October and I will grow them organically. I should be able to harvest the large bulbs in early May, let them hang to dry for a couple of weeks, and then sell them from the middle of May through June, or until I run out. Fresh, home-grown, gourmet garlic cloves taste far superior to anything available in super markets. Even though planting time for them will be in mid-October, I have to amend the soil and give it time to settle and mellow.
