sedumzz's blog: 1/8/2022 - An actually long blog post

Hi. I am trying to write a blog again. This time, I hope I will not fizzle out while writing it.

First off, I was checking database stats. Apparently, I am 20th in Comments, and 25th in photos. I don't know how I got this many done....

Ok onto plants...

<{ Zinnia }>
"Oohhh fancy formatting? Wow......"
Ok so I ran out of Zinnia seeds because I sowed them all last year, and then most of them died after some catastrophic wind swept them off the FENCED area and into the forest. They were in a plastic egg carton, one of those big trays. I found the tray in the forest a few days afterwards, not much left. This year, I will go for some "interesting" varieties, some different flower forms and such. Maybe I'll have better luck starting them inside until early spring winds are gone.

<{ Wheatgrass... Wow.... Totally so exciting }>
I think I can finish the blog without loosing interest in the middle. Yay!
I was gifted a terrarium kit a while back. There were chia seeds and wheatgrass seeds. I put all the chia seeds into the plastic jar included, and all the wheatgrass into my own pot. I've been watching them grow, it's quite fun to watch, and to divert the winter gloomies. Currently, they are around 7-8 inches tall, one outlier being 9-10 inches tall. A single blade of wheatgrass. Wow.

Hmmm..
They are chia seed babies. They lean a lot. They grow squiggly stems because I turn them frequently. They are cute. Not much to say about them.

<{ Basil mix!!!!!!! }>
Finally got to germinating them. These are seeds from strains I randomly hybridized since I was a little kid. Only one has germinated today, but that's fine. One is enough, though I'd like more. I really hope I get more. I love the smells and variabilities and bushiness of basil. And the blooms. And the seeds. And how leggy they get (Yes, I like that part. Well, usually, at least).

<{ Cypress Vine Seeds... Anticipation! }>
Not much to say here. Found a packet of them, I want to grow them. A few, not too many. I hope they germinate and don't die. I really like the ferny foilage, so dainty and cute. I also really like their flowers. Bright, happy, clusters, and tiny trumpet shapes. So cheerful. At the old house, we had many that would self-seed every year and grow up a GIANT redbud. Such a spectacular show! Cute little ferny baby plants in spring with the vivid purple-violet blooms.... Ferny vines in summer with the limey-green/olive-green heart shape leaves.... and then what a wonderful scene it was in mid-summer to early-fall, all those beautiful trumpet flowers all over the trunk.... So pretty. I'm surprised the seeds survived the cold every winter, and that the vines never really strangled the tree.

<{ Plectranthuses? Plectranthi? Plural? How I grammer engrish? lol }>
My plectranthuses have been doing quite well. Neochilus variegata is just growing. Also, it smells TERRIBLE when you rub it. Can't describe it, but it just smells really oddly disgusting. Plectranthus aegypticus is in cascade bonsai style. I need to pinch it to make a "canopy".

Blah blah blahs, I'm pretty much out of topics. So, I have to end the blog. I'm surprised I wrote so much and still kept it kind of tidy.

Thanks for reading,
Sedumzz
