Yesterday I decided to take out a very big, very dead wild rose bush. I was well-prepared: Heavy jacket, jeans, boots, and big heavy leather welder's gloves. Everything went smoothly until about an hour into the job. I cut low down on a big branch and it fell toward me, tapped me on the noggin, then skittered over my shoulder. Kinda stung, but no big deal *shrug*. I pulled it off, dragged it to the brush pile and went back to work.
That's when I heard this annoying "drip, drip, drip" noise. And something running into my eye.
They say wounds to the head and face bleed way more than expected. They are right. Blood everywhere. I dropped my tools, took off my (now bloody) gloves and went into the house, dripping all the way. What a mess. It took two full paper towels and about 5 minutes of constant hard pressure to get that tiny little pinprick at my hairline to stop bleeding. In the meantime, in my hair, down my neck, on my jacket, all over the sink, on the floor. It looked like a crime scene.
[[Enter Catherine Willows, CSI: "From the blood spatter, it looks like the perp must have fled the scene."
Gil Grissom: "Tracing back to the victim, I'd say the weapon was probably secateurs. Possibly a heavy loppers." [He swabs the tools for blood evidence.]
Catherine: "We're looking for a perp whose lost a lot of blood. I'll bag the gloves for DNA evidence." [Zips bloody gloves into plastic bag] "It must have been quite a struggle. The victim obviously fought back."
Gil: [Gives cocky smile.] "I'd say the victim "ROSE" to the occasion."
[Scene fades out to theme song "Who Are You?" by the Who.]
