LysmachiaMoon's blog: Pat, pat, pat

*Pat, pat, pat* That's the sound of me patting my own back. Yesterday I intended to only toss a sheet of plastic over the tattered greenhouse roof and bungee cord it down. And then the mightaswellas took hold. The bungee cords were shredded. Might as well restring those before I start. Then might as well get all the old sheeting off the roof. Now that the structure is bare, might as well at least saw out that very bent little section of pipe and see if I can replace it...then *push, grunt, strain* get it level again. And that means loosening those bolts, and those, and those, and then might as well see if I can raise the entire roof back into place...

Got the whole darned thing done! Got the broken bit repaired, got the roof back up into place, got fresh plastic sheeting over the roof, new bungee cords in place, taped, stapled and ready to go. I may need to replace the roof again this summer because I used up what I had in the way of plastic sheeting and I'd prefer to have one much bigger piece rather than the two smaller pieces I used, but at least everything is under cover and hopefully the new bungees will be enough to hold everything in place. I left the door wide open and got whatever water I could out of the greenhouse. It should dry out fairly well today, we've got some sunshine today.

RE: Bungee cords. Never toss out a worn out bungee cord. Just snip off that spring shaped hook thingy at the ends. You can buy bungee cord on Amazon for very little $$ and make whatever length of hold-down you need. You just pull out the old cord from the hook, run the end of the new cord in, tie a knot and Bob's your uncle. I spent a small fortune buying very long bungee cord hold downs that lasted about a year. Then I discovered I could make my own for a only a couple dollars each.
