Rain! beautiful rain.
It came on as a deluge when I took this photo toward my drive. Look at those raindrops dancing!
Maybe an hour previous I had been outside to verify what dahlias did not come up and to chop off the spent iris stalks. I heard some rolling thunder and then we got a light spritz. Oh how I have missed the smell of rain. Oh my goodness! What a welcome smell.
There's a word for that, hang on … let me think.

What a word! But the smell is even better!
It's still dark and more heavy showers to come and then we dive into 90s this week. The only thing I can help is things take off with the bit of rain and grow and grow. Except, when I look at the month ahead for weather we won't have rain again until July 14th. I know a month ahead for weather can change but dang - rain is so needed. As you can see, what remains of the grass is dormant.
The dahlia seedlings are looking good less whomever is munching holes in them. Maybe a slug. It's a perfect round hole. But they are looking good now, I just need the height and the buds and we'll see where it goes.
Someone asked about eating tubers. I recently read you can - Kristine Albrecht a dahlia breeder and floral designer has a recipe in her new book for such. I'm not sure I'm on board with my tubers, I hold them over until spring. And I think I would feel guilty cooking one up to try. They would give me the stink eye as they spied my knife and cutting board I'd think. 😂
So the sky is getting darker and maybe these storms are headed more this way. I'm ready and hopefully my buckets are getting full. Yes, I do catch rain off the one non guttered side of my garage. It's about the only good thing about it. I always hope it will blow over with a storm. It hasn't. Very sturdily built, probably by a very sturdy Norwegian immigrant way so long ago. I wish it to fall over, no dice.
Enjoy the rain drops! Find a puddle to splash in!
Next on the docket maybe good growth! First heavy rain since I planted them. More can come.
