Never in my life have I seen such huge Grasshoppers. I found a 4 and 1/2 inch one on my Azaleas yesterday. I showed it to my friend Ray, because I knew she would want to see it. She identified it with her Smartphone, and it was indeed a grasshopper, but I was calling it a Locust before we got out there.
Last weekend I was walking and saw one in the street where a car had hit it and it was at least twice that size. How do I know this? Well, it is that ugly yellowish/green stripes that come under the main body part. It was enormous! I guess they have enough to eat to grow that big. Wow! Who knew?
