slowcala's blog: Hurricane Idalia ~ Mega Rain

Posted on Aug 29, 2023 4:03 AM

Wow! Did we ever get torrential rain last evening? It poured, starting at around 6 pm, and we filled the big Rain Barrel in no time. I looked up at the neighbor's house and our tub under the gutter was spilling over within a few minutes. Unbelievable! We had a pond in the backyard before it stopped, but here's the clincher, it rained again overnight. I will go out and access the situation as soon as it's daylight.

Now, we are expected to get rain all day tomorrow, but I'm praying that we don't. Our neighbor Ray says they are giving away 25 sandbags, and she is checking to see if we can go after 4 pm when she gets off work. She has a truck, and DH & I will load.

I will be taking pictures of the tiered garden this morning to check for soil erosion. Last evening it was not bad, but the pavers were clean and the sand that was on the Steppingstones and grass had washed into the beds at the top of the bank.

Stay tuned. Crossing Fingers! I'm keeping my fingers crossed and praying for all those on the coast. Lovey dubby Group hug
