slowcala's blog: New Plant Cuttings and A Rooted Plant

Posted on Sep 12, 2023 2:02 PM

I started a weeding project at the widow's house yesterday evening, because she is having a total knee on Oct. 4th and I just wanted to get her garden beds looking good so she will be content not to want to get out there. Man, do I ever know what that's about. I didn't get finished, but I went back this morning to finish. It was not so much weeding but pulling grass plugs where her son had spread summer Rye grass seed and it had gotten into a bed around a big Palm tree. I had a brainstorm while pulling out the grass plugs. Why I could take these plugs home and put them in water all day and when the sun goes down, I can put them in the ground and water them. That is exactly what I did. I have them soaking in water right now.

I helped her put some plants in containers, and trim out some very overgrown trees a hedgerow next to the garage. I will go back in the morning and pull grass and weeds from her back yard. I also pulled out a Lantana bush that was over my head and put it in a bucket of water to soak overnight and plant it tomorrow.

She has been wanting to meet my friend Ray, so I grabbed Ray and took her down to meet her. She let us take cuttings from 3 of her container plants and Ray identified several plants for us. We got the pretty yellow/blue flower call Wishbone. Oh, that is so lovely. We also got cuttings from a Blue Salvia, and another plant called a Spur with purple blooms. Ray gave me cuttings from her Tropical Hibiscus, and she also gave me a rooted Bleeding Heart Vine. Wow! So many plants.

I've still got to go out and plant those grass plugs after sunset, but I'm pretty tired.

Ray turned me on to a new hack she learned. It's called "You've Been Booed". You fill a paper sack with small items, a little bag of candy, some flower seeds, etc, and then you take it to someone's house and leave it there for them to find. Try not to let them see you. The moral is that you will make them smile and they will reciprocate the You've Been Booed with their friends/neighbors. Isn't that a great idea? That woman is so stinkin' creative. I have already made the flower seed bags with used coffee filters on the sewing machine. I will need to buy something small to add to the sack. Ray is providing all the candy, and other small things. What would be a good small item for me to purchase? Please let me know in a comment below folks. I need help.

I think this is our Indian Summer. In Kentucky it always comes at the end of October, but we are way ahead of their seasons.

Peace & Plenty.
