I did not walk today because I knew I would have to work at least all morning before it got too hot. I finished planting all the grass plugs and the ones I had already planted looked good. I watered them all and then I thought I'd better mow the lawn. It grew after those 2 rains we had this week. It usually takes all my energy after mowing, but I discovered that one of the big Azalea's that I got from Ray had died. I am convinced that only the most drought tolerant desert like plants will survive out front. So, DH helped me get it out and we dug up the biggest Agave and put it in the hole. The Agave will be fine out front in that brutal heat.
While digging out the hole a bit before placing the Agave I saw irrigation pipes. Now I know to be careful in that area. No, we are not having the irrigation turned back on, but by the same token I don't want to compromise the irrigation system. I am glad I moved the Agave because it was too close to the neighbor's property line and that could cause issues some day when the Agave gets 35 ft high and is in the way of those mowers. Yeah, I'll be dead and gone when that thing matures, but it will survive out front and it filled that hole nicely. I know I will be moving it in the future. I have 2 Hamelia Patens out front and they get 8'x8' and there is no way those 3 plants will fit once they mature.
My sweet neighbor/friend gave me a Mango yesterday. A big, beautiful fruit that was lush and ripe for eating. I started on it this morning and I finished it this afternoon. I planted the big seed. I'm pretty sure it will take years to grow fruit, but man do I love Mango's. It will be worth it when I'm so old that having a fruit like that will be too expensive to buy in a grocery.
Speaking of grocery stores, our Aldi's market and Walmart have new Self-Check Out bays. I have to give them credit for the new design. It has more space for your groceries, and you don't have to set them on the floor. I know that it takes jobs away from the clerks who did the work before, but down here there are Hiring signs everywhere you go. I don't like Self-Checkout and neither does DH, but that is the way of the future.
I will have my SCC surgery tomorrow morning. I'm praying they only have to cut one layer and it's negative for anything.
