Where I live down a private gravel lane, I've never had access to cable or fios, even in a suburban area outside of Washington DC. It has always been available on the state roads nearby, but it is almost impossible to get the companies to bring cable or fiber down the rural lanes. The only solution for television has been via satellite, so I've had DirecTV since 1991. Because my property is so wooded, there were very few places where the satellite dish could be located to get the needed angle for the satellite feeds. Putting it on the roof would not work, so that ugly dish has been on a pole in my Angel Bower garden all these years.
As technology advanced, I knew at some point there would be another solution. Streaming via the internet is finally viable for me. Many years ago I was able to get rid of Hughes Net, the satellite internet solution, by using hot spot devices that work off cell phone towers. High speed data was limited though, and you had to be careful how much you were accumulating each day to not hit the max during the monthly billing cycle. Even though the plans kept increasing the data limit, it was never unlimited, and never enough for daily streaming of video.
I heard about T-Mobile's 5G unlimited high speed data whole home network when I took my T-Mobile hot spot device in for a new battery. It had been around for a while but it started in select areas only. They have steadily increased their coverage and when my area was included in coverage expansion, I got the 5G device and switched to their plan. It works, and works well! Truly unlimited high speed data!!! I checked into streaming TV plans and went with Hulu Live. I supplement with Netflix and also get Amazon Prime Video with my Prime membership.
I ran satellite DirecTV and the streaming TV services in parallel for a month or so to get used to it, and then cancelled DirecTV. It is actually a lot cheaper per month and the best part - I was finally able to remove that ugly satellite dish from the garden
