slowcala's blog: Three In A Jar

Posted on Nov 20, 2023 8:22 AM

I just happened to walk around the house this morning before I walked Roxxie, and lo and behold I had 3 caterpillars on the Milkweed. I told Ray about them, and she asked me if I was going to put them in a jar. I stated that I would just let nature take its course, but she said sometimes the birds eat them. I decided that I would put them in a jar, but wait, I don't have a jar. While we were walking, she found her jar and now I have all three of them in a jar with Milkweed and they are happily munching away.

This is a first for me. I have never grown Milkweed or had an interest in watching the Monarch's emerge from the chrysalis. I know it will be beautiful. I just found out last week that there are up to 5 generations of Monarch's in a season. I have viewed the film about Monarchs on PBS and saw them clinging to the trees in Mexico by the thousands and its quite extraordinary how they travel so many miles to get there. Nature is wonderful.
