What's growing in my garden
Posted on Jun 7, 2020 8:16 PM

I have had a lot of help from my daughter, Kelly, in the garden. We are growing lots of vegetables to include: Tomatoes, lettuces, peppers, a wide variety; okra, aubergine, loopha, and of course Sunflowers, marigolds, coleous, crinum lilies, a wide variety of caladiums and butterfly plants, especially native ones. Today I made a sauce for spaghetti with tomatoes, basil and parsley from our garden. It was delicious.

My Garden

Since I live in Florida Zone 9a and can garden in the Spring, Fall and Winter, I keep busy all the time in the Garden. Even in summer I grow certain things such as peppers, pigeon peas, crowder peas, etc. and we also have to constantly mow the grass. I try to grow my garden as organically as possible (without pesticides and herbicides). I have found that at this point the plants in my garden are healthier and have lots of beneficial insects such as many varieties of bees, wasps and lots of different butterflies. We also have a worm farm for worm tea and worm castings.

I have already started my fall planting and some of the seeds are sprouting. I have marigolds, sunflowers, cabbage, broccoli, kale and some varieties of beans. The beans were directly planted in a raised bed in the back garden. The rest of the vegetables and flowers are still in the "Starter Place" Garden. The starter place garden is a place where I start seeds or cuttings in 2 1/2" containers.

Some of the beds are not ready so I can't wait till it cools down a bit so I can work more hours in my garden.
