2016 Mazda2 gets 43 MPG freeway
Posted on Apr 14, 2015 2:35 AM

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the fuel economy rating of the new 2016 *Mazda2* and it’s pretty incredible. It is rated for 33 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the freeway if you go with the six-speed automatic transmission. The stick-shift version of the "Mazda2" is rated just a tad worse at 31 mpg city and 42 mpg freeway. Whether you opt for the manual transmission or the automatic, the gas mileage you’ll be getting is significantly better than the 29 mpg city and 35 mpg freeway that its predecessor was getting. That’s a 15% boost in fuel efficiency. Most importantly for the Japanese auto maker, the ^Mazda2^ beats out its competitors such as the Honda Fit, the Hyundai Accent, and the Kia Rio Eco when it comes to fuel efficiency.

The improved fuel efficiency is largely attributed to the six speed transmission that is new in the 2016 model. Production of the new *Mazda2* began in the fall of last year.
