mouldy clay pots
Posted by Sheelagh (sheelaghgillis@hotmail.com) from Nova Scotia, Ca on 2005-05-02 08:54:00

Can anyone tell me why my clay pots (indoors) have mould on them and what I can do to prevent it please?

Are you sure it's mold and not a mineral build-up on your pots? (That happens to mine sometimes, due to hard water or having the pots outdoors.)

I was taught to wash pots (of any material) each time before planting anything in it and let them soak in a weak bleach solution for at least five minutes.

Sometimes clay pots don't work well for plants that hang over the edge because it's too damp and eventually the vine/stem starts to rot where it touches the edge of the pot.
