Mass Cane "sprout"

Mass Cane "sprout"
Posted by Holly (holly_l_sturdavant@yahoo.com) from VA on 2005-10-05 08:58:00

I don't know a whole lot about house plants and I need some advice. I have a mass cane plant that I've had for years. The main plant died - all the leaves have fallen off of it and it's just a dead stalk, but there's a "sprout" coming off the bottom of it (just below the surface of the soil). The "sprout" is now almost as big as the dead stalk of the original plant. Will the sprout ever grow it's own trunk, or is this typical of how they grow? I don't want to remove the dead plant if the "sprout" is feeding off of it. Please help!

Thanks!
