little white worms eating my radishes

I believe I may have planted my radishes too late and it's been too hot because I wound up with lots of leaves and thin stringy roots but only a few very small radishes. While I was pulling up the crop I discovered that I have an abundance of roly-poly bugs that were nesting in the roots but most importantly many of the radishes had white maggot-like worms surface burrowing and feeding on what should have been radishes had they developed. I can't figure out what they could be or how to get rid of them for next year.
