I.  Plant Parts—Structure and Function

"But we already know all this!"

Most gardeners know the basic anatomy of their plants, and can readily identify leaves, stems, and roots. We begin this week by taking a closer look at these and other plant parts, examining their external and internal structures, their roles, and how they perform their various functions.

By reviewing and introducing important terms, we’re laying the groundwork for future discussions about plant processes and interactions. To help you get comfortable with new terms, we created a glossary containing the botany and horticulture terms we introduce along with their meanings. Any underlined word is defined in the glossary. By the end of this week, you’ll be discussing meristems and apical buds with the pros!

Let’s dive in!
