Last week we surveyed the remarkable diversity within the
plant world, and looked at the ways plants are named and classified. This week well
build on last weeks work by exploring how and why these diverse forms arose.
Well revisit the topic of plant basic needs, and look at the evolutionary process
that gave rise to adaptations that allow plants to fill their needs in challenging
environments. Well move on to adaptations for protection, and, finally, discuss
adaptations to climate. Although the distinctions are often blurryfor example,
climate influences a plants ability to fill its basic needsthis organization
will give us a frame of reference and a place to start. |
