By drdawg, April 27, 2016

There always seems to be a lot of interest in and questions asked me about growing Fiddle Leaf Ficus as a houseplant. Along with questions, there is also a lot of confusion as to exactly what sort of houseplant the Fiddle Leaf actually is.

The Excellent SorghumThe Excellent Sorghum
By dave, April 25, 2016

Sorghum is in the grass family and is closely related to corn. In fact, when it's young it is nearly impossible to differentiate it from corn. If anyone ever tells you they have volunteer corn in their garden, you can sound smart by guessing that it's sorghum.

The newest comments to the plant database:
By NHJenDion on May 6, 2016 10:58 AM, concerning plant: Geranium (Geranium thunbergii 'Jester's Jacket')

Comes true from seed, but does not develop its characteristic foliage coloring until the 2nd season, when it starts out coral-pink. Spreads extensively from a single plant in many directions, but dies back to the main plant at the end of the season. Low growing -- a good foil to taller plants.

By NHJenDion on May 6, 2016 10:36 AM, concerning plant: Pot Phlox (Phlox paniculata 'Sherbet Cocktail')

Flower coloration is very interesting, but flowering is generally light. Does not seem predisposed to mildew.

Shows good resistance to powdery mildew. Flowers heavily if not discovered by the deer, which love it, of course.

By NHJenDion on May 6, 2016 10:31 AM, concerning plant: Globe Thistle (Echinops ritro)

Taproot. Does not divide well. Sow seed in situ or in containers and transplant carefully. Small plantlets can be "sliced" off edges of larger plant, but full-scale division is not recommended.

By NHJenDion on May 6, 2016 9:40 AM, concerning plant: Rough Goldenrod (Solidago rugosa 'Fireworks')

Very showy - nothing like the 'wild' goldenrod. Forms a large clump and will spread into other plants if allowed, but pulls up easily enough.
